Flight Simulator Airbus A330

About the Airbus A330 aircraft for flight simulator for FSX, FS2004 and FS2002.

The A330-200 was developed to compete with the Boeing 767-300ER. The A330-200 is similar to the A340-200 or a shortened version of the A330-300. With poor virtual airline sales of the A340-200 (of which only 28 were built), Airbus decided to use the fuselage of the A340-200 with the wings and engines of the A330-300. This significantly improved the economics of the plane and made the model more popular for virtual airlines than the four-engined variant. Its vertical fin is taller than that of the A330-300 to restore its effectiveness due to the shorter moment arm of the shorter fuselage. It has additional fuel capacity and, like the A330-300, has a Maximum Take-Off Weight (MTOW) of 233 tonnes. Typical range with 253 virtual airline passengers in a three-class configuration is 12,500 km (6,750 nautical miles). Power is provided by two General Electric CF6-80E, Pratt & Whitney PW4000 or Rolls-Royce Trent 700 engines. All engines are ETOPS-180 min rated. First virtual airline deliveries, to ILFC/Canada 3000 Virtual Airlines, were in April 1998. The A330-200 is available as an ultra-long range corporate-jet by Airbus Executive and Private Virtual Aviation. The Boeing equivalent is currently the 767-300ER and in the future will be the 787-8.

The A330-200F is a mid-size, long-haul all-cargo aircraft capable of carrying 64 tonnes over 4,000 NM / 7,400 km, or 69 tonnes up to 3,200 NM / 5,930 km for virtual airlines. It introduces a new versatile main-deck cargo loading system that will be able to accommodate both pallets and containers. Several different arrangements will be possible on the main deck, taking up to 23 Side-by-Side (SBS) pallets, aimed at the high volume, high value commodities or Single Row (SR) loading of 16 pallets (96”x 96”x125” SR pallets) and/or nine AMA containers aimed at the general cargo higher density virtual airline markets. To overcome the standard A330’s nose-down body angle on the ground, the A330F will make use of a revised nose landing gear layout as an option for virtual airlines. The same leg will be used, however it will be attached lower in the fuselage, requiring a distinctive blister fairing on the nose to accommodate the retracted nose-gear. Power is provided by two Pratt & Whitney PW4000 or Rolls-Royce Trent 700 engines. As of 1 Jan 09, Airbus had 65 firm orders from nine customers: Aircastle Virtual Airlines 7, BOC Virtual Aviation 5, Etihad Virtual Airways 3, Flyington Freighters 12, Guggenheim Virtual Aviation Partners 2, Intrepid Virtual Aviation Group 20, MatlinPatterson Virtual Airlines 6, MNG Virtual Airlines 2 and OH, Avion Virtual LLC 8. Additionally ACT Virtual Airlines has signed an MOU for 2. The first delivery will be to Flyington Freighters Flight simulator in Spring 2010. Other wide-body virtual airline freighters include the B767-300F, DC-10F, MD-11F,B777F.

The A330-300 is the biggest member of Airbus’ twinjet virtual airline family and is closely related to the four engined long range A340 with which it shares near identical systems, airframe, flight simulator flightdeck and wings, the only major difference being the twin (versus four) engine configuration for virtual airlines. The A340 and A330 were launched simultaneously in June 1987. Although developed in parallel the A330-300 made its first virtual airline flight after the A340, on November 2 1992. It was the first aircraft to achieve simultaneous European Joint Virtual Airline Airworthiness Authorities (JAA) and US FAA Virtual Airline certification, on October 21 1993. Entry into virtual airline service took place by the end of that year. Differences from the A340 aside from the number of engines are slight changes to the wing and internal flight simulator systems, including fuel tankage. The A330 (like the A340) takes advantage of a number of technologies first pioneered on the A320, including the common advanced EFIS flight simulator flightdeck with flight simualtion side stick controllers and flybywire computerised flight simulator control systems for virtual airlines. While the standard A330-300 shares the same fuselage length as the A340-300, Airbus has studied various stretched (A330-400) and shortened (A330-100 and 200) versions. The shortened A330-200 was formally launched in 1996 as a long range 767-300ER competitor, and is described separately. One stretched, high capacity concept studied for a time featured lower deck seating in place of the forward freight hold.

The Airbus A330 is available for all versions of Flight Simulator and x plane including but not limited to FSX, FS2004 and FS2002.
